The role involves researching, developing, designing, and testing components, equipment, systems, and networks in one or more engineering disciplines. The Project Engineer 5 will head a Special Emphasis Programs (SEP) certification team for certifying VCS New Construction, Columbia New Construction, VCS PSA, Sub Fleet Support, and AIT availabilities. The position requires applying engineering principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components; and quality testing. The engineer will also support and participate in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototypes, applying research to the planning, design, development, and testing of systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
