About The Position

The Engineer Principal position at American Electric Power (AEP) is designed for a Civil Engineer with at least 8 years of experience in civil site engineering. This role involves leading and executing complex engineering projects related to electric substations, transmission lines, and telecommunications. The position offers opportunities for career development and requires a hybrid work schedule, with three days in the office and the remainder working from home.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • 8 or more years of related engineering experience, or 6 years with a master's or PhD in Civil Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is required.
  • Knowledge of civil site engineering principles, including site grading, stormwater management, and roadway design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil3D software is strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in erosion and sediment control and permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with surveying techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit advanced technical expertise in civil engineering and serve as a resource for the company.
  • Lead and coordinate work activities within teams and assume project management roles.
  • Develop and implement plans addressing complex engineering problems, including scheduling and resource management.
  • Identify and resolve complex engineering issues, initiating innovative solutions.
  • Prepare and present complex technical subjects to senior management and regulatory bodies.
  • Build and maintain networks across AEP and with external organizations.
  • Make informed technical decisions that impact long-term plans and goals.
  • Demonstrate business awareness and identify opportunities for the organizational unit.
