About The Position

The Pipeline Safety Gas Engineer is responsible for technical support of the management of change database, facilitation of risk assessments and Continuous Improvement Efforts for the Ameren Illinois gas Pipeline Safety Management System/Gas System Excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience in pipeline integrity management, management systems, and performance measures and communications preferred.
  • Experience in leading root cause analysis efforts preferred.
  • Experience in relevant pipeline industry regulations (49 CFR Part 192, 49 CFR Part 195, API RP 1173) preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to collaborate as a team while staying strategically focused on continuous improvement.
  • Excellent computer and analytical problem solving abilities.
  • Experience with Management of Change Systems and leading Process Hazard Analysis.
  • Experience with Six Sigma Methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Foster process safety ownership within Ameren Illinois through leadership, coordination, and coaching keeping with risk-based process safety and Ameren Corporate Values.
  • Provide routine communication to the Pipeline Safety Management team regarding process safety issues for Ameren Illinois.
  • Work with Process Safety Specialist to ensure that Ameren Illinois's safety systems reduce risk and assure compliance.
  • Lead risk assessments for anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazards. Also lead formal process hazard analyses (PHA).
  • Develop and improve training, tools, and policies that support Gas Safety Excellence.
  • Coordinate the engineering review capability for process hazard analyses (PHA), management of change (MOC), and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR).
  • Lead process event investigations and develop effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist leadership with the development of short and long-term process safety objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize and mitigate risks.
  • Provide analysis of process safety incidents to assure sustainable corrective actions are implemented.
  • Review training systems for effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide detailed technical direction to improve process safety performance.
  • Ensure management systems effectively address the Ameren Illinois's Process Safety (PS) risk profile and develop/ align Process Safety strategy.
  • Provide technical direction to achieve the Process Safety vision using management systems co-developed with the Performance Improvement Manager.
  • Serve as a mentor for technical and operations employees to make process safety an everyday mission for continuous improvement.
