About The Position

21c Museum Hotels is a pioneering example of bridging the worlds of art and hospitality, combining a multi-venue contemporary art museum, boutique hotel, and a chef-driven restaurant. The Engineer - Painter performs maintenance and repairs in specialized areas such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and painting. This role involves cleaning and maintaining all equipment and work areas, documenting parts used and needed, and reporting any unsafe conditions to the Chief Engineer.

Requirements

  • Must have basic knowledge of building mechanical systems and controls, energy management and building maintenance skills.
  • Minimal comprehension and literacy required to read instructions, repair manuals.
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Checks with Front Desk to make sure all guest issues have been resolved.
  • Checks HVAC loop temperatures are at normal operating temperatures.
  • Checks domestic hot water temperatures.
  • Walks building daily looking for lights out and any obvious breakdowns, blemishes or other problems.
  • Follows up on Housekeeping calls for maintenance issues.
  • Fixes all broken furniture as assigned.
  • Ensures that all work orders are completed.
  • Checks with Chief Engineer to make sure inventory is up to par.
  • Changes air and water filters throughout building.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance throughout property including guest rooms, public spaces, kitchen, restaurant, storage, and office areas.
  • Assists valet in resolving guest auto issues such as jump starts and flat tires.
  • Assists Guests with internet connectivity issues.
  • Assists other departments within the property as needed.
  • Apply paint, stain and other finishes to property walls, ceilings, and furniture using brushes, spray guns, or rollers.
  • Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces for finish coats.
  • Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning, or using water and/or abrasive blasting.
  • Cover surfaces with appropriate material for protection during painting and post appropriate paint signs.
  • Clean up and store paint and painting tools and equipment in appropriate areas.
  • Coordinate with vendor in order to modify colors of paint, stain, or varnish.
  • Maintain or apply various types of paint and paint related duties.
  • Tape and mud drywall surfaces.
  • Prepare walls, ceilings, doors, trim, furniture, and exterior surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling holes, caulking, and priming.
  • Perform high-quality touch-ups in occupied and guest-visible areas with minimal disruption.
  • Respond to paint-related work orders in rooms, lobbies, restaurants, pools, spas, and other resort facilities.
  • Repair minor drywall damage, patch holes, fix peeling paint, and restore worn or damaged finishes.
  • Maintain aesthetic consistency across properties and ensure compliance with brand color standards.
  • Follow all OSHA and resort safety guidelines regarding chemicals, equipment, ladders, and ventilation.
  • Clean and maintain painting tools and ensure safe storage of all flammable and hazardous materials.
