About The Position

The Engineer or Associate Engineer position within the Engineering Services division of the City of Santa Clarita is responsible for managing complex land development and capital improvement projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Four years of professional civil engineering experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience is highly desirable.
  • Possession of Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate is highly desirable.
  • A valid Class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation may be required.
  • Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers (for Engineer level only).

  • Experience with regional and federal grant funding processes.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and evaluates public improvement plans, including street improvement plans, sewer plans, storm drain plans, grading plans, tract and parcel map easements, and subdivision maps.
  • Conducts reviews of technical reports to ensure compliance with City Unified Development Codes and City design standards.
  • Supervises, trains, develops, and mentors employees; evaluates performance and resolves employee performance issues.
  • Prepares and reviews staff agenda reports and resolutions for City Council approval.
  • Advises and assists the public, developers, contractors, and other engineers, ensuring project compliance with construction codes, City ordinances, and standards.
  • Provides technical support to the public and City staff at the Engineering Permit center.
  • Investigates and resolves citizen inquiries, requests, and complaints.
  • Researches, prepares, and presents reports on a variety of engineering matters.
  • Conducts site visits to investigate issues related to local drainage, slope failure, landslide, flooding, and unpermitted grading work.
  • Acts as a project manager overseeing design and construction of infrastructure and public facilities capital improvement projects.
