About The Position

The Engineer (Mid - Sr.) position at American Electric Power focuses on performing intermediate level engineering work related to Distribution Planning, Modeling, and Analysis, particularly in the context of Distributed Energy Resources (DER). Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with four years of experience, or a master's degree in engineering with two years of experience.
• Knowledge of electrical distribution system one-line diagrams and equipment specifications.
• Experience with electric utility medium voltage distribution systems (2.4kV to 34.5kV).
• Familiarity with distribution system equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, and voltage regulation equipment.
• Proficiency in electric distribution system modeling software (CYME, ASPEN, PSSE, Easy Power or similar).

Nice To Haves

• Experience in Distribution Planning, Station Engineering, or Transmission Planning.
• Knowledge of electric system modeling software and distribution system components.

Responsibilities

• Execute DER pre-application reports, screening assessments, and interconnection studies across the AEP footprint.
• Coordinate, support, and review work performed by external consultants.
• Develop and maintain AEP Distribution's DER interconnection policies, standards, and requirements.
• Support regulatory and policy advocacy in the DER space for Distribution Planning.
• Evaluate new technologies and participate in industry forums related to DER.
