The Engineer (Mechanical / Manufacturing) at Wausau Equipment Company will play a crucial role in the research, development, and design of products as directed by the management. This position involves making modifications to existing products and selecting appropriate components and materials for new designs. The engineer will be responsible for creating engineering drawings, maintaining accurate bills of materials, and ensuring all pertinent documentation is completed as needed. Additionally, the engineer will assist production floor associates in troubleshooting issues and enhancing manufacturing processes, performing moderately complex aspects of design and manufacturing engineering. In this role, the engineer will utilize CAD software to lay out product designs, ensuring that they meet standards for accuracy, structural strength, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The engineer will design parts and assemblies, ensuring that tolerances are accurate for proper fit-up during the assembly process. There may be opportunities to oversee the work of CAD Drafters or Engineering Interns in creating accurate part and assembly drawings. The engineer will also be responsible for creating new product designs and redesigns, managing item records, and ensuring proper manufacturing resource planning through the MRP system. The engineer will assist the production floor in problem-solving and process improvement, create product and process documentation, and design necessary welding, fabrication, and assembly fixtures. They will also assist the customer service department in analyzing and resolving product issues, potentially communicating directly with customers. Organizing product safety reviews and implementing changes based on those reviews will also be part of the responsibilities. The engineer will conduct research to understand the competitive marketplace and customer requirements, source new vendors for R&D projects, and manage large-scale changes to existing products or MRP settings. They will create Engineering Change Orders and communicate necessary changes to relevant departments. Testing new or improved products and evaluating their performance and structural integrity will also be part of the role, along with developing engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing standards.
