Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. This position should have the technical ability to assist in the development of design and maintenance improvements for A4W reactor plant fluid systems and mechanical components. The engineer will assist with design studies (e.g., root cause analysis, new design development), identify life-cycle cost reductions, perform risk management studies, conduct laboratory testing, analyze data, and assist with developing integrated technical positions and recommendations for customer (NAVSEA 08 and NNL) approval. The engineer will perform liaison services (e.g., with shipyards and CVN68 Class ships) to solve problems identified during equipment manufacture, installation, operation, and maintenance. The engineer will assist in developing ship modification products and provisioning documentation, and maintain technical manuals and drawings. Good verbal and technical writing skills are expected. Other job responsibilities may include some combination of, but not exclusively: Risk analysis System design and modification Fluid analysis Understanding material requirements and welding techniques Liaison with the test laboratories and manufacturing facilities/vendors Identifying and validating materials for acceptance into reactor plant applications
