About The Position

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. Exciting opportunity to join a team of Engineers responsible for new-construction aircraft carrier engineering. This position, focusing on Advance Weapons Elevators, is looking for forward-thinking Engineers that can use design and processes to improve deck plate quality, efficiency and throughput.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience
  • Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in design modernization efforts to improve Ford class manufacturability.
  • Resolving production and supply chain hold ups for ships and components under construction.
  • Performing complex technical analysis to evaluate ship machinery components for operation and ship survivability.
  • Checking drawings and models for technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Writing system technical manuals for components and systems.
  • Interfacing with Construction and Trades on the ship and in the manufacturing shops.
  • Interfacing with suppliers for design development and manufacturing.
  • Leading meetings with peers and customers both internal and external to NNS.
  • Performing root cause analysis to root out systemic problems.
  • Generate and evaluate new designs and processes to improve deck plate quality, efficiency and throughput.
