As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally. As a part of the GCS Metadata Platforms pillar, you will manage the core metadata infrastructure for Google Cloud Storage. You will oversee the schema, services, APIs, integrity, and recovery protocols. Your mission is to provide a highly durable, reliable, and performant metadata layer that scales with customer demand while remaining flexible enough to support the rapid launch of new Google Customer Solutions (GCS) features.Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience with large-scale storage technologies.
  • 5 years of experience with cloud-based infrastructure.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience working with a high performance large-scale data pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor an engineering team, fostering professional growth, high morale, and a culture of continuous learning.
  • Define the roadmap for GCS Metadata Store in partnership with stakeholders, aligning technical strategy with customer needs.
  • Oversee the design and operation of metadata schemas and services supporting high-performance features like Hierarchical Namespace and Rapid Storage.
  • Drive improvements in reliability and scalability while maintaining high standards for production health and on-call execution.
  • Collaborate across the GCS stack and with product management to ensure successful feature integration and resource optimization.
