About The Position

The Engineer IV - Tunnels position at Mott MacDonald Group, Inc. involves developing conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for civil engineering projects, particularly in the field of tunnels. The role includes attending site inspections, participating in project meetings, reviewing and modifying designs, and performing structural and geotechnical calculations. The engineer will provide technical advice, analyze various reports and data, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations. The position requires 10% domestic travel for site inspections and client interactions, with the possibility of telecommuting from a home office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a directly related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience as an Engineer or in a related occupation involving tunnel or geotechnical engineering.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing geotechnical calculations for underground structures.
  • Two (2) years of experience preparing reports for development and construction of underground structures.
  • One (1) year of experience in drawing development for underground structures.
  • One (1) year of experience utilizing AutoCAD, CorelDraw, or similar software.
  • One (1) year of experience developing specifications for underground structures.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the State of California.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for civil engineering projects.
  • Attend site inspections, investigations, and monitoring.
  • Participate in project, client, and team meetings.
  • Review, prepare, and modify designs.
  • Analyze reports, specifications, and studies.
  • Perform structural and geotechnical calculations.
  • Provide drawing markups and sketches for project drawings.
  • Ensure structural designs comply with local and national codes.
  • Direct engineering activities to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Manage construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project sites.
  • Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications.
  • Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors.
  • Plan and design transportation or hydraulic systems or structures using CAD tools.
  • Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, and structural repairs.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, and other topographical or geologic data.
  • Test soils or materials to determine foundation adequacy and strength.
  • Identify environmental risks and develop risk management strategies.
