About The Position

The Engineer in Training (EIT) Design & Construction is a safety-sensitive role that supports the planning, design, and construction oversight of civil infrastructure projects along the Chicago Skyway. This role provides hands-on exposure to roadway, structures, drainage and asset management activities under the guidance of experienced engineers and project managers. The position supports both design review and field construction activities while developing technical, analytical and project coordination skills in a fast-paced toll road operating environment.

Requirements

  • Actively pursuing a master’s degree in engineering
  • Academic transcript required as part of the application to demonstrate coursework and performance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for job-related communication and instructions
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Working knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, OpenGov or other Asset Management Software is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform design reviews including conceptual layouts, grading, roadway, structural, and drainage components for civil engineering projects
  • Support QA/QC efforts by verifying design methodologies, calculations, and technical outcomes
  • Research design alternatives and document findings for project managers
  • Interpret and coordinate drawings across multiple disciplines and respond to requests for information
  • Support construction supervision of SCC projects, including paving, grading, roadway, structural, and drainage work
  • Assist with data collection and technical analysis under supervisory guidance
  • Support project scheduling, invoicing and financial tracking activities
  • Assist with CAPEX forecast
  • Assist with asset creation, updates and management in OpenGov
  • Develop asset inventory records using MicroStation and ArcGIS
  • Perform other duties as assigned
