Engineer-in-Training/Designer – Roadway Design
About The Position
HSH offers an excellent opportunity for an Engineer-in-Training/Designer on their Roadway Design team. HSH is comprised of civil, structural, and transportation engineers, as well as planning, environmental, and community engagement experts, working on high-profile, complex infrastructure improvement projects in the Commonwealth, including award-winning designs like New England’s first center-running MBTA Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes. HSH has offices in Boston, Bridgewater, Chelmsford, and Worcester, and offers a flexible policy relative to both time and location. The successful candidate will be responsible for both technical content and project management tasks related to public infrastructure roadway projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree – Civil Engineering
- Relevant internship or 1-4 years’ experience of progressive responsibility in Civil Engineering (recent grads considered)
- Ability to work in team environment as an individual contributor
- Organized and able to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently across multiple projects and deliverables
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to utilize critical thinking, judgment, and experience to define, analyze, and resolve issues
Nice To Haves
- EIT preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD and AutoTurn preferred
- Experience with MassDOT standards and deliverables a plus
Responsibilities
- Development of design plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates for public bidding
- Providing support and guidance for junior staff
- Client and sub-consultant management and coordination
- Tracking of project budgets
- Delegation of work tasks to supporting staff
- Basic knowledge of survey data collection, land rights, and regulatory permitting
