About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is currently seeking an Engineer-in-Charge to join the Construction Management's Construction Support - AS-BUILTS team. Successful candidate will report directly to a Deputy Director and will be responsible for managing the construction of complex projects, leading constructability review meetings to reduce delays, and ensuring the precise collection of project data. The candidate will also coordinate with Resident Engineers, Office Engineers, and Inspectors under respective project Resident Engineering Inspection (REI) or Project Management Construction Management (PMCM) consultants, while liaising with the Utility Coordination, Design, and Program Management Units throughout different stages of construction. Additionally, the candidate's responsibilities include inspecting contracted work to ensure it meets Agency and City standards; preparing cost proposals for contract negotiations; proving suggestions on modifications to engineering designs; engaging in design and constructability review meetings; managing and approving various project-specific submissions, such as sheeting design constructability, vendor approvals, and environmental plans, as well as overseeing financial aspects; payments, change orders, and time extensions. Lastly, the Engineer-in-Charge will also oversee final inspections; train and mentor new staff; manage project close-out procedures; ensure the approval of final documentation; and provide regular updates on project progress and address any critical delays in meetings.

Requirements

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of full-time satisfactory experience managing and/or inspecting construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 for each of the five years.
  • One year of experience as described above and a baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, landscape architecture, construction, construction technology, or construction management.
  • One year of experience as described above and a valid license as a professional engineer, registered architect, or registered landscape architect.
  • A combination of at least two years of experience as described above and the education as described to equal a total of five years of education and experience.
  • Driver License Requirement: Must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years or more as Resident Engineer experience.
  • Knowledge of various types of capital construction and consultant contracts.
  • Construction experience related to infrastructure work (i.e., roadway, sewer, and/or water main).
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling.
  • Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Personal vehicle.
