About The Position

The primary purpose of this organizational unit is to provide Statewide engineering and geomatics analysis in the development of transportation facilities and acquisition of property in accordance with the best professional engineering and surveying practices consistent with all laws and regulations governing the State Highway System. We are looking for an Engineer III to serve as the Assistant Central Regional Engineer - Divisions 6,7,8 & 10. In this role you will: Be assigned to the Regional Team Lead and will be assigned work across 4-5 Divisions. Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) functions as part of the Department's Project Delivery Network Process (PDN). Assist in the scoping, negotiation, estimating and evaluation of mobile LiDAR data. Perform scoping, negotiation and evaluation of Utility Test Hole data. Manage the Right-of-Way revisions process, record the final Right-of-Way sheets at completion of projects as well as verify the final Right-of-Way staking Coordinate and collaborate with the Location & Surveys Regional Team Lead and the associated Division Team Leads as well as the Central or Division Managed Project Teams including both Preconstruction and Construction personnel. Provide geomatics oversight of work products and oversee implementation of the program within the assigned multi-Division Area. Work independently and receives limited daily supervision. Possibly represent the Department at public meetings and public hearings related to transportation systems planning work. Utilizes your excellent oral communication skills to explain technical information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and Route Location Surveying including geomatics engineering including GPS, geodesy, hydrology, property law, construction stakeout, utilities, GIS, Terrestrial and Mobile LiDAR, Bathymetric Sonar Technology, photogrammetry, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
  • Experience ensuring compliance with Department/Unit procedures in geomatics engineering operations and policies.
  • Experience directing and managing others in survey support activities associated with the acquisition and processing of data, on multiple projects.
  • Experience working with NCDOT and private firms in ensuring guidelines are followed and project needs, and scope are met.
  • Experience interpreting and communicating complex geomatics engineering design concepts and techniques.
