About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer evaluates manufacturing processes to increase production and make processes more efficient while reducing manufacturing costs. Researches, develops, and improves methods of designing, building, and shipping products on time and within budget. Ensures the technology, techniques and equipment used are the most efficient, and in good working order. Improves safety and reduces equipment malfunctions. Provides direction and training to production supervisors, assemblers, and technicians. Interacts with engineering department, and senior level professionals both internal and external to AE.

Requirements

  • Comfortable working with various manufacturing and electronics tools: vacuum reflow ovens, wire bonders, solder printers, and EFDs
  • Demonstrated and tactical level experience or program management of wire bonding for Integrated Power Electronics Modules (IPEM) in the electronics or automotive industries
  • Ability to design fixtures for soldering and wire bonding
  • Ability to own multiple, but smaller scale design of experiments (DOEs) on a continual basis, as necessary
  • Proficient in 8 disciplines of problem solving (8D) analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to design and test within the tooling feedback cycle
  • Robust knowledge of SolidWorks required
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment in selecting best practice methods and techniques for manufacturing
  • Proven professional skills as an experienced manufacturing engineer with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of IPC-610 standards
  • Understanding of electrostatic discharge (ESD) protocols
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems independently
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
  • Demonstrated ability to perpetuate and display great interpersonal skills in all forms of communication
  • Experience working with solder alloys, adhesives and encapsulants, and aluminum wire
  • Experience with soldering, encapsulant, and adhesive process and equipment
  • Experienced in application of the process capability index (Cpk) and statistical process control (SPC) data during DOE installation, and execution
  • Experience influencing and negotiating in complex situations
  • Five+ years of electronics manufacturing engineering experience preferably in a microelectronics or semiconductor production environment
  • Cleanroom experience preferred
  • Bachelors’ degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Science, or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Assists with line capacity planning and is responsible for yield improvements in collaboration with management and inputs from engineering sections globally across three business units (BUs)
  • Follows up on daily production issues, leads the team to increase yield, improving product quality and manufacturing cost reductions
  • Estimates manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements
  • Using feedback from product quality provides corrective action and monitors implementation
  • Drives continuous improvement projects to elevate product performance in manufacturing
  • Performs preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment
  • Creates and modifies manufacturing process documentation
  • Takes total ownership of documentation related to the BU in AE's Quality Management System (QMS) to include origination, modification, and obsolescence through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Implements manufacturing-industry best known methods in support of continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency and effectivity of the production line
  • Analyzes work content for distribution to work centers and capacity requirements
  • Recommends and prepares process improvements which will facilitate manufacturing excellence
  • Assists product design teams to drive designs that meet all cost and quality goals
  • Reviews product requirements with design staff to ensure compatibility with processing methods
  • Performs Design for Manufacturability analysis on new products
  • Shares tactical level input to operators on manufacturability, training of and introduction to process improvements related to build and need
  • Owns entire process of the wire bonding program from start to finish across three tools, maintenance, programming, and troubleshooting
  • This includes production wire bonding when applicable
  • Responsible for dissemination of training to team members
  • Communicates as a team member, delivering process instructions across multiple, global BUs
