Job Summary: The Engineer III – Gas Planning plays a key role in ensuring the reliability, resiliency, and future growth of the gas system through advanced engineering analysis and strategic planning. This position leads system planning and modeling efforts across gas transmission and distribution networks, transforming complex system data into actionable insights that inform long-range capacity planning, system integrity initiatives, and near-term project prioritization to support safe, efficient, and sustainable operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Engineering Program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission Preferred.
  • 5 years of related gas utility engineering, planning, or operations Required.
  • Gas system planning methodologies, hydraulic modeling, and capacity analysis.
  • Understanding of integrity management programs and applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and common business tools.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 Years of project or technical leadership experience Preferred.
  • Data analysis, system modeling, standards compliance, cost optimization - preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety rules and practices to identify and correct unsafe conditions for self and team.
  • Perform system planning and modeling, including building and maintaining hydraulic and network models and conducting capacity, contingency, and constraint analyses.
  • Perform data-driven analyses to support long-range planning and near-term project prioritization.
  • Apply established risk-based planning methodologies to evaluate system performance and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with operations, integrity management, finance, regulatory, and other stakeholders; communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance planning accuracy, modeling consistency, and data quality.
  • Support capital planning and budgeting processes by preparing planning analyses, documentation, and technical justifications for investment decisions.
  • Provide technical support during significant system events or emergencies.
  • Engage in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and help deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
