About The Position

The position may be classified as an Engineer II or Engineer III depending on qualifications and experience of the selected applicant. The selected candidate will work in the Coastal Engineering Division in the Department of Public Works. The individual will perform a variety of duties of a complex nature related to coastal, dredging and civil engineering projects. The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable in coastal engineering disciplines with demonstrated project management experience in major infrastructure projects, permitting, and construction. Candidates must be adept at working on multiple projects. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must. Coordination with other City Departments, consultants, contractors, government agencies, and project stakeholders is expected.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable in coastal engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with permitting and construction.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Apply project management techniques for various projects to ensure projects are delivered within its scopes, schedule, and budget constraints.
  • Project management for the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) related to beach nourishment, navigation dredging and shore protection projects.
  • Overall project development including planning, design, engineering and construction support.
  • Provide comprehensive engineering support related to environmental permitting and studies.
  • Bid and contract management for design and construction.
  • Conducting and preparing materials for public meetings.
  • Provide professional responses to citizen inquiries concerning specific projects to properly inform them as well as incorporate their input.
