About The Position

The Engineer II will develop foundational skills and basic knowledge in a specialized practice area. This role involves applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks within broader assignments. The position requires limited judgment on work details and the application of standard methods for conventional tasks.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with electronic communication, including email and text, and standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with other staff members.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • 5+ years of prior experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience producing drawings with CAD software.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Bilingual- Spanish a Plus

Responsibilities

  • Develop signal hardware circuit plans for grade crossing and wayside projects; be able to design for different Railroads, Commuter Rail, and Transit Systems; be experienced with a variety of signal design standards, typical drawings, and signaling equipment
  • Assist in the development of bidding documents to include technical descriptions, design scope, assumptions & exclusions, and estimated effort & costs
  • Conduct field site visits for preliminary engineering to assess existing conditions
  • Produce preliminary design sketches for project scope
  • Produce phased design sketches and plans
  • Develop signal specifications
  • Experienced in drafting signal plans in MicroStation and AutoCAD
  • Develop application programs for solid state processors; be experienced with paper checking, simulating, and rack testing
  • Provide configurations for communications devices, like routers and modems
  • Be familiar with Positive Train Control wayside compatibility and communications packages
  • Provide configurations for modern solid state crossing detection equipment
  • Travel to conduct signal cut-in oversight with contractors in the field and/or provide remote design support to contractors through to commissioning
  • Execute other tasks as assigned to meet business needs.
