Engineer II Position Summary GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low-latency platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we redefine experiences for our customers. Position Description Our Engineer II is a key member of the engineering staff working across Business Services Engineering, Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, and Infrastructure Engineering to ensure that we provide a friction-less experience to our customers and maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high-quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge, typically ranging from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between.

  • Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems in a UI-focused role, taking primary responsibility for developing and enhancing front-end applications while also contributing to back-end integration and over system functionality.
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle.
  • Participate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization.
  • Utilize programming languages like C#, Dart, and SQL along with supporting frameworks and platforms (e.g., .Net, Flutter), NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernete, and a variety of Azure tools and services.
  • Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
  • Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution.
  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design.
  • Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • Fluency with C# or similar languages.
  • Experience working in Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban/SAFe).
  • In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms
  • Understanding of existing Operational Portals such as Azure Portal
  • Understanding of HTML-5, JavaScript/TypeScript, XML, JSON, and RESTful Web Services
  • Understanding of Monitoring Tools such as Titan or Application Insights
  • Intermediate PowerShell scripting skills
  • Intermediate level understanding of Azure Network such as security zones, VNETs, and Public Peered Services
  • Understanding of Azure PaaS and IaaS services
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication).
  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience in C# and .NET frameworks
  • 2+ years of experience with architecture and design
  • 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
  • 2+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
