About The Position

The position involves various responsibilities related to electrical engineering, specifically in utility substation design and construction. Employees may perform tasks such as applying knowledge of utility substation designs and standards, providing electrical and physical design for various projects, creating project deliverables, preparing specifications, overseeing drawings, handling project closeout, and maintaining project communication. The role also includes mentoring team members and staying informed about developments in the field.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in substation design and construction.
• Professional Engineering License or Professional Certification (desirable).
• Working knowledge of scheduling software and spreadsheet programs.
• Knowledge of applicable engineering codes.

Responsibilities

• Apply sound knowledge of utility substation designs and standards.
• Provide electrical design for projects like relay upgrades, breaker additions/upgrades, transformer replacements, RTU installations, and new substations.
• Provide physical design for projects like bus additions, new equipment installations, and new substations.
• Develop scope definitions, estimates, and schedules; collaborate with Project Managers to ensure on-time and on-budget completion.
• Develop specifications and material lists.
• Manage preparation of review sets and final construction sets.
• Oversee as-built revisions.
• Interact with clients, utility personnel, manufacturers' representatives, and others as needed.
• Keep up with developments in electric utility substation design & construction; suggest improvements.
• Act as Lead Engineer on assigned projects.
• Conduct documentation and inspections at job sites as required.
• Train Design Engineers, Designers, and Electrical CAD Technicians.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Electrical Engineering or a Senior Protection & Control Engineer.
