In this Sustaining Manufacturing Engineer II role, you’ll be at the forefront of maintaining and advancing the accuracy of our water meter technology—leveraging test systems, statistical analysis, and metrology expertise to support production, drive improvements, and enable efficient, high‑quality manufacturing. You’ll be a critical link between design intent and real‑world performance on the manufacturing floor. The Sustaining Manufacturing Engineer II sustains and develops water meter accuracy by applying engineering fundamentals to test scenarios, troubleshooting and analyzing tolerances on design in support of Badger's Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost goals and objectives. This will be an onsite role at our Racine facility. Regular visits to our various manufacturing sites are required with domestic and international travel necessary one to two times per year.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Demonstrated application of engineering statistics to drive decision making using common statistical software such as Minitab and Excel (Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiments, Gage R&R)
  • Experience with engineering documentation (standard work maps)
  • Ability to operate in a manufacturing environment

  • Background with automated manufacturing controls and computer systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of standard work, process maps, and Level III work instructions for assembly operations with limited or no existing documentation.
  • Partner closely with manufacturing teams to capture current‑state processes, identify improvement opportunities, and design clear, efficient, and repeatable workflows.
  • Establish foundational process documentation that supports training, quality, audit readiness, and continuous improvement across assembly departments.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives by turning observed floor practices into standardized, documented best practices.
  • Support manufacturing operations by troubleshooting production issues and making necessary repairs in a timely manner.
  • Assist with current product support issues, troubleshooting customer and production issues, and validation.
  • Operate accuracy test stands and troubleshoot as required.
  • Design and perform product and design verification tests.
  • Lead large VA/VE or cost improvement projects using lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
  • Initiate and implement engineering change requests.
  • Ensure product integrity through the application of statistical process controls, high-quality process documentation, and sound engineering principles.
  • Develop financial analysis and justification of new processes and equipment and initiate capital asset requests for such equipment.
  • Research and integrate safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment and processes that assure products are produced at established safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and drive to implement effective solutions for these opportunities.
  • Apply project management process and tools to accuracy tester-based projects to ensure projects meet cost and timing objectives.
  • Contribute to all ISO audits conducted on the production floor and obtain all certifications as required
  • Create Level III (specific work task) procedures and supporting process documents and work instructions for the production floor that support high-quality processes and capable equipment.
  • Must be willing to work 50% of the time on the Manufacturing Floor, and 50% of the time at the desk.
  • Support production floor on Weekends in areas of expertise if needed
  • Willingness to travel 10%, domestic and international, sometimes on short (1-3 days) notice (typically 2-4 trips to Badger Meter’s Mexico Manufacturing site or other vendors)
