About The Position

The City of Virginia Beach is looking to hire an Engineer II/III within the Public Utilities Department. This position will be responsible for a variety of engineering duties and project management to support operations and the maintenance of public facilities. In this role, you will be managing the design and construction of capital improvement projects, focusing on water and sanitary sewer systems, pump stations, force mains, and water distribution systems. As an integral team member, you will review construction plans, ensuring adherence to department and city specifications and collaborate closely with engineering consultants. This position will be filled as an Engineer II or an Engineer III, depending on qualifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred for Engineer III position.
  • Experience in project management and engineering design related to water and sewer systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with public utilities infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with local and state regulations regarding public utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Manager and Engineer-in-Charge for water, sanitary sewer and stormwater projects and ensure timely and on-budget design and construction.
  • Perform contract administration for design and construction projects.
  • Conduct field investigations and interpret contract requirements.
  • Prepare reports and maintain project documentation and records.
  • Coordinate and administer project work orders, bids, contracts, and invoices.
  • Perform infrastructure condition assessment and manage water and sewer infrastructure rehabilitation projects.
  • Coordinate with City Departments, Public Utilities Operations, and Local and State Agencies.
  • Provide Engineering support for operation and maintenance of Public Utilities infrastructure.
  • Consistently apply independent decision-making skills.
