About The Position

This role is responsible for supporting design, development, and implementation of Human Factors (HF) methods for a generation IV nuclear reactor. They will perform research and development in human performance for highly automated systems. The role will be responsible for planning and conducting verifications and validations, executing risk management strategies, and applying the latest HF principles to improve the design of human-system interfaces. They will collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines within cross-functional teams, while advocating for the best possible human factors engineering outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human factors, engineering psychology, clinical/cognitive psychology, industrial engineering or related degree from an accredited institution.
  • Engineering coursework or human factors job experience required.
  • One to two years of professional experience in industry or academia with high emphasis on research.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the interactions between humans and other elements of a system and applies theory, principles, data, and methods within the engineering design process to assure proper interaction between products, systems, and processes and the people who use them.
  • Collaborates in planning, scheduling, and organization of detailed phases of engineering work.
  • Collaborates in the technical oversight and direction of internal or external design teams.
  • Facilitates and assists in the assessment of design needs and captures requirements and functions of plant operators and technicians.
  • Executes human factors assignments with clear and specified objectives; utilizes conventional specification and/or system design documents and plans.
  • Recommends system and interface design changes and enhancements to improve quality of products and/or procedures from an assembly, transportation, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and/or decommissioning perspective.
  • Leads reviews and presentations for internal company design reviews and customer design reviews regarding human factors engineering design.
  • Organizes engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, contractors, or other groups as required.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using well defined engineering procedures, which may include routine engineering studies to support system design issues
  • Assists in a variety of topics including developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations or equipment recommendations.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
