Federal Signal has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer II based at our University Park, Illinois facility. This position is responsible for assisting in making decisions regarding engineering problems for products in our Industrial Signaling division.

  • Develop layouts, concepts, specifications, and designs for new product developments as well as product redesigns.
  • Perform analysis as required to ensure meeting product performance and reliability requirements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and prepare preliminary cost estimates of designs and redesigns.
  • Assist in generating detail specifications of individual components of a new design and replacement components in end of life and cost reductions projects.
  • Communicate with vendors where engineering is required to develop specifications for components and processes.
  • Write rough draft of changes to customer instruction sheet.
  • Build prototype PC Boards as required for product development evaluation.
  • Work with Quality Control in approving vendor's parts.
  • Write Engineering Change Requests and product structures.
  • Assist Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance in vendor selection.
  • Assist functional engineering groups when required for electrical/software support and development for New Product Development (NPD) efforts.
  • Utilize basic industrial electrical assembly knowledge methods.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited University
  • 5-7 years of engineering experience
  • Intermediate troubleshooting skills
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of C and Python programming languages
  • Experience with PCBA manufacturing
  • Knowledge of power supply design is required.
  • Experience with audio/amplifier and LED lighting design is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to learn and create schematic diagrams for electrical systems for new products and modifications for existing electrical systems.
