About The Position

Power your Career as an Engineer II with our Distribution Engineering department! We are seeking a detail-oriented Distribution Engineer to support the preparation of cost estimates and construction plans for electrical infrastructure projects. In this role, you will create field sketches, develop material layouts, and ensure compliance with utility standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, coordinate project activities, and contribute to permitting and invoicing processes. This position is ideal for someone with a blend of technical aptitude and strong communication skills, who is eager to grow within a structured training environment and take ownership of complex utility projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Prior experience with or exposure to electrical utility estimating, design, or construction is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with clients, teams, and permitting agencies.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical tools such as GIS, AutoCAD, SAP, and enterprise estimating software.
  • General understanding of utility standards and infrastructure systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to complete structured training and adapt to evolving project demands and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and construction plans for electric system additions or improvements.
  • Create field sketches and material layouts aligned with utility standards and customer specifications.
  • Obtain joint-pole agreements and initiate procedures for rights-of-way, permits, licenses, and environmental documentation.
  • Coordinate with client personnel and serve as a point of contact for customer-related inquiries and project updates.
  • Participate in project billing and invoicing activities to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Use Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) to organize and manage project documentation.
  • Upon completion of training, utilize technical platforms such as SAP DMS, OCalc, GIS, WebViewer, EES, and AutoCAD.
  • Apply knowledge of utility standards to evaluate constructability, materials, permitting needs, and project mapping.
  • Deliver accurate and complete estimate packages for single and multi-location projects.
  • Meet or exceed productivity expectations-such as a minimum of 16 completed corrective projects per month or meeting timelines for complex fire hardening projects.
