The Operations Technical Services (Commissioning) Engineer is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and timely installation and testing for various substation equipment types including relays, breakers, transformers, and station batteries. Deliverables include on-site engineering support for capital and maintenance projects, testing, reviewing tests performed by others, and procuring and producing test reports with summaries and conclusions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university is required.
  • Two (2+) or more years of progressive and relevant experience required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Additional certifications, such as PE or EIT/FE are preferred.
  • A combination of experience working both in the field and in office is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with protective relaying and substation equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and interpret Protection Engineering relay and equipment protection recommendations.
  • Evaluate engineering designs for protective relaying and substation equipment, replacements, upgrades, modifications, and new installations utilizing Protection Engineering recommendations, Asset Management and Planning scopes of work.
  • Create plans to ensure essential protection schemes are kept in service without jeopardizing substation function.
  • Function test schemes for correctness using field-marked prints.
  • Collaborate with bargaining unit employees to test protective equipment and produce test reports with summaries and conclusions.
  • Document, review, interpret, understand, organize, and archive test results from protective equipment.
  • Utilizing function tested and verified schematics, perform GPS synchronized end-to-end testing of protection schemes.
  • Enforce and review testing methodology and test results.
