The Roadway Design Unit is comprised of a diverse team whose primary purposes are to produce and review roadway design plans, lighting and electrical plans, and provide technical expertise on these subjects to internal and external partners. For more information about the Unit, please watch video. We are looking for an Engineer I who will serve on the Support Services Team. In this position you will: Provide CADD Workspace development, training, and support. Create, update, and test Roadway Design ORD Workspace Resources, such as training, templates, feature definitions, cell, symbology's, configurations, etc. Develop, test, implement, update, and maintain existing and new non-CADD related software and procedures. Assist in maintaining the ORD Service Portal / Knowledge Base platform and Roadway's YouTube assets on NCDOT's communication channel. Explore and recommend improvements to all host platforms, including ServiceNow, SharePoint, ProjectWise, YouTube, and possible AI support agents. Engage in committee meetings, workshops, work groups, conferences, presentations, training, and other avenues to learn, promote, and keep lines of communication open with industry practitioners. Assist in training technicians, Engineering Associates, and interns in the use of national, state, and local highway design guidance. Assist in maintaining the Roadway Design Unit's web resources. Monitor and respond to public information requests and messages. Create, update, and publish documents, articles, videos, or links to all host platforms, including SharePoint websites, Service Now, ProjectWise, YouTube, and similar.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of engineered models, plans, and construction estimates for transportation infrastructure projects in compliance with guidelines, standards and specifications, and state and municipal policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Bentley's OpenRoads Designer software and ORD workspaces.
  • Demonstrated ability preparing and communicating technical training documentation and presentations in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
  • Demonstrated ability training others with various levels of knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability providing timely customer service and working cooperatively with others to answer questions and resolve conflicts.
