The Fiber Planning Engineer is responsible for designing and coordinating fiber optic infrastructure that supports utility communications across transmission, distribution, and substation systems, while also serving as a fiber subject matter expert for the organization. This role develops construction-ready optical ground wire, aerial cable and underground fiber routes on new and existing utility facilities, including detailed splicing diagrams and patch plans to ensure efficient connectivity and scalability. Working closely with development, engineering, operations, and construction teams, this position ensures designs meet technical standards, safety requirements, and regulatory compliance while providing expert guidance and support during construction, testing, and network turn-up. This position is responsible for performing, under supervision, challenging engineering work but with limited direct responsibility. Specific job positions may include planning, designing, and/or overseeing construction, installation, operation and maintenance of components, systems and facilities used in the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electrical energy.
