About The Position

Microchip is seeking an Entry Level EHS Engineer to become a member of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Team, working from our Chandler Arizona headquarters. The preferred candidate will have a technical background/education in an environmental or occupational safety discipline. The candidate will be quickly developed into a functional member of the EHS department and will be directly involved in maintaining regulatory compliance for a wide variety of EHS programs across Microchip operations. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with other teams within the organization. Some of the essential functions of this position include assisting senior EHS personnel with day-to-day tasks, collecting and analyzing data, interacting with other departments to gather data, presenting findings, and helping streamline administrative processes. Projects will span a range of topics including employee safety initiatives, injury prevention, emergency response, environmental reporting, and evaluation of emerging chemicals of concern. Opportunities to visit and other support Microchip locations across North America and internationally will emerge as the candidate grows in their role.

Requirements

  • Understand and interpret Federal, State and international regulations, both current and emerging.
  • Ability to craft well-written plans, policies, operational specifications and training programs.
  • Organize, plan and manage multidisciplinary projects while meeting regulatory deadlines, department objectives, and customer commitments in a timely manner.
  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions in controlled situations.
  • Read and understand engineering plans and specifications.
  • Communicate, plan, develop, and implement cost-effective technical solutions to resolve potentially complex problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a science background including environmental science, chemical engineering, chemistry, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or a similar scientific discipline.
  • 0-2.5 years of experience in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or a similar scientific discipline.
  • Proficiency with computer software suites, including Microsoft Office, MS Teams.
  • Willingness to participate in Emergency Response Teams, if needed.
