About Department 457 – Electrical Engineering & Design Support Department 457 provides electrical engineering and design support for all fleet VIRGINIA, OHIO, LOS ANGELES, and SEAWOLF class submarines, including Moored Training Ships and land-based prototypes. We resolve emergent fleet issues, modernize and upgrade systems, provide life cycle support, and deliver technical reviews for electrical systems critical to fleet readiness. Role Overview Department 457 Electrical Engineers join a group responsible for supporting a wide range of electrical systems and equipment in the following areas: Reactor plant instrumentation and control systems Steam and electric plant systems Auxiliary electrical/electronic systems Power distribution equipment and systems Advanced power electronics This position supports all fleet submarines, including Los Angeles, Ohio, Seawolf and Virginia classes; training platforms including S5W/S6G Moored Training Ships at NPTU Charleston, SC and the S8G Prototype at Kesselring, NY; and Multi Mission Platform (MMP)/Watchtower. This role offers an unusually wide variety of work across assignments of varying duration, with increasing responsibility and independent as skills and experience grow.
