The Human Systems Integration Engineer II provides specialized expertise in human factors engineering to support Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) cybersecurity initiatives and Naval control system environments. This role ensures that operator interfaces, controls, procedures, and training materials promote safe, effective, and intuitive human interaction with complex shipboard systems. The engineer supports system design, testing, documentation, and training efforts to enhance mission readiness and operator performance across Navy cybersecurity programs.

  • Apply human factors engineering principles to HM&E cybersecurity systems, control stations, and operator workflows.
  • Evaluate system interfaces, controls, and displays to improve usability, situational awareness, and operator safety.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of system diagrams, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and technical documentation.
  • Support the development and updates of manuals, operating procedures, and training materials for shipboard crews.
  • Participate in operator training activities, delivering guidance on system usability and human-system considerations.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with Navy standards, cybersecurity requirements, and fleet operational needs.
  • Support Test & Evaluation (T&E) events, including test planning, readiness reviews, data collection, and operator feedback analysis.
  • Participate in shipboard assessments to validate human performance, interface usability, and integration with cybersecurity capabilities.
  • Provide recommendations to address deficiencies, reduce operator burden, and improve mission performance.
  • Ensure adherence to Navy cybersecurity policies, RMF requirements, and program quality standards.
  • Complete all required security and compliance training (OPSEC, CUI Handling, Cybersecurity 101, etc.).
  • Collaborate closely with systems engineers, software engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and fleet operators.
  • ABET-accredited BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, OR BS degree in a physical science, engineering, or mathematics discipline including 24 semester hours of physical or engineering sciences (e.g., mechanics, dynamics, materials, electronics).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience supporting Government-related research & development (R&D), Test & Evaluation (T&E), or systems acquisition programs.
  • Knowledge of human factors engineering, human-machine interaction, and control system usability.
  • Experience supporting technical writing, documentation development, and operator training.
  • Familiarity with T&E processes and working within Navy or DoD program environments.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across engineering and cybersecurity teams.
  • Ability to work effectively remotely in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite software including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
