About The Position

The position involves participating in the planning, development, scheduling, and performance of engineering assignments related to new pipeline safety regulations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and at the federal level. The role supports the general day-to-day tasks of the Policy & Compliance team and applies engineering practices as directed by the lead engineer or their designee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Three plus years of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of gas distribution construction and maintenance work practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable governmental codes and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of welding and fusing principles.
  • Working knowledge of environmental requirements affecting related activities.
  • Familiarity with MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains company standards to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and codes.
  • Coordinates with relevant stakeholders to assess the impact of new regulations on existing processes and systems.
  • Assists in developing and implementing comprehensive strategies for regulatory compliance in alignment with Massachusetts or Connecticut and federal mandates.
  • Leads implementation of new compliance initiatives resulting from new gas regulations as directed.
  • Prepares and presents reports on compliance status, progress, and issues to senior management and regulatory authorities.
  • Monitors regulatory updates and communicates changes to key stakeholders.
  • Provides necessary details to training organizations to ensure understanding and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with finance and investment planning groups to determine capital and O&M costs.
  • Collaborates with legal counsel to interpret and apply regulatory requirements accurately.
  • Monitors and tracks industry best practices and emerging trends in regulatory compliance.
  • Assists in gas distribution system restoration efforts during emergencies.
