About The Position

This position is at the Dolan Technology Center – AEP’s testing and research & development facility – where the cutting edge of energy technology is put to the test. As an engineer at the Dolan Technology Center, your responsibilities would include: Designing and executing electrical tests – some of these tests will involve high voltage up to 1 million volts. Safety is priority number 1 so standard operating procedures and safeguards are to be followed. Collaborating as part of a team in various technical areas. Engaging with internal and external customers to provide testing services and analysis. Assisting internal customers in identifying, defining, and executing test plans, as well as developing and presenting results both in writing and orally. Design and constructing test beds while utilizing appropriate test equipment and procedures to execute test plans. Applying skills across the engineering spectrum, from theoretical concepts to design, construction, and operation of systems and test beds. Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds, climbing ladders, and traversing unimproved surfaces (e.g., gravel, fields).

Requirements

  • Engineer SG7 Has typically acquired a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET along with two or more years of related engineering experience. Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at this level. Acceptable alternative: Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
  • Engineer Technologist SG7 Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles; Bachelor's degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by ABET. Acceptable alternative: Bachelor's degree in engineering technology (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering technology from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
  • Engineer Senior SG8 Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET; Or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET; Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternative: Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program
  • Engineer Technologist Senior SG8 Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles; Bachelor's degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by ABET.   • For Technologist degrees, A degree in engineering technology is the preferred degree: however, engineering degrees will also be considered.
  • ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a university with a Non ABET accredited program

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of electrical power systems.
  • Familiarity with laboratory environments and test equipment.
  • Experience in fabricating test beds and using machine shop tools.
  • Experience in operating heavy equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and manlifts.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Relevant electrical engineering experience.
