About The Position

Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems. In addition to being the E24 technical expert for electromechanical system design and analysis, this position will require the training and mentoring of all levels of Engineers and Designers within E24 Carrier Machinery System department. This position will require frequent interface with high level customers up and down the value stream. The individual filling this position will need to be a self-starter, an excellent communicator, an excellent technical leader, and have a strong desire to work in a teaching and mentoring role while tackling diverse electromechanical system design challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 14 years of relevant exempt experience; Master's Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 9 years of experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Must be a self-starter

  • Must be an excellent technical leader
  • Must have a strong desire to work in a teaching and mentoring role while tackling diverse electromechanical system design challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience in the design, analysis and troubleshooting of software-controlled, electromechanical machinery systems used in Naval applications.
  • Extensive industrial/deckplate experience, coupled with a broad technical knowledge of FORD class systems and analysis methodologies, is required.
  • Experience with software for FEA, shock and survivability is a benefit.
  • A detailed understanding of the requirements for shipboard machinery systems, particularly FORD class machinery systems, is required.
