About The Position

This position is in support of the U.S. Navy’s GERALD R. FORD Class Aircraft Carrier propulsion plant planning yard (PPPY), whose Engineered Components team is responsible for maintaining the design of complex mechanical and electrical machinery within the propulsion plant such as steam turbines, gearsets, diesel engines, electric generators, heat exchangers, pumps, and motor and valve controllers. The PPPY supports aircraft carrier new construction, testing, and delivery; in-service maintenance; and fleet operations. Areas of responsibility encompass procurement of new machinery and technical support of in service machinery. The procurement activities include defining design objectives, establishing specifications and requirements, overseeing suppliers to ensure their products meet these objectives and requirements, and ensuring delivery of technically compliant products that support ship construction and test schedules. The technical support activities include supporting shipyard and navy personnel who operate the propulsion plant by liaising between these activities and machinery manufacturers, assisting with ship construction and repair, providing advanced troubleshooting guidance, and identifying beneficial design improvements and maintenance practices. The position requires strong technical writing skills, the ability to proactively identify and resolve technical design issues, and the interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate with Navy civilian and uniformed customers, our supply partners, shipyard trades, engineers, project managers, and business professionals. Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.
