About The Position

The role involves applying electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components; and quality testing. The position supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems. The Newport News Shipbuilding team is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual with extensive technical expertise and/or naval design, testing, and analysis experience to support the acoustics program. This leadership role will focus on supporting the Newport News Shipbuilding Acoustics group in Department E46. The selected individual is expected to be fully proficient, mentor, and teach other acoustic methods, advanced analysis, and testing principles for all Navy programs. Experience in modeling, analyzing, tracking, and performing assessments of acoustic transmission paths is key to this position. This is a senior-level position requiring leadership experience and collaboration with various Navy technical labs and subject matter experts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program and 9 years of relevant exempt experience.
  • Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD SECRET level clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and/or theoretical work in acoustics or vibrations.
  • Knowledge or experience with US Navy mechanical ship systems.
  • Experience with acoustic transfer functions, transmission path analysis, and acoustic level predictions.
  • Experience with MATLAB and analysis methods for assessing acoustic performance.
