About The Position

Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems. This position is specifically for the E83 innovations group which is pursuing robotics, remote video conferencing, artificial intelligence and the application of other advanced technologies for fleet support. The candidate should have knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines and interest in developing / applying advanced technology solutions. Strong communications and project management skills and interest / experience with the system security plan risk management framework process are desirable. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting major projects that includes interfacing with senior management, contractors, equipment suppliers, trades and engineering is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Navy / DoD programs is also highly desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with end-user support and troubleshooting
  • Experience working with suppliers on product development and improvement
  • Demonstrate basic project management and leadership skills (e.g., planning, organizing, monitoring, reporting, and leading meetings and briefings)
  • Ability to work with multiple departments, suppliers, and customers to accomplish technical and project objectives
  • Ability to apply engineering and critical thinking principles to develop problem statements and technical solutions to simple and moderately complex problems
