About The Position

Lake Cable is looking for an Electrical/Automation Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain PLC/DCS-based control systems for plant machinery and assembly lines. The role involves troubleshooting issues with related equipment and programs, replacing or rebuilding outdated machine electronics, and optimizing machine operator effectiveness through robust GUI/HMI displays. The position is critical in ensuring the operational efficiency of production lines and involves a variety of tasks that change based on project requirements.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years in an Electrical/Automation Engineer role - preferred.
  • Trained to design and assemble industrial electronics (circuitry, PLCs, drives and motors, network devices, HMIs, etc.).
  • Ability to fully read, write, and understand electrical/mechanical drawings and device manuals.
  • Solid familiarity with industrial communications protocols (Modbus RTU/TCP, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, ASCII, OPC UA, MQTT/JSON).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of advanced control theory preferred (Root Locus, La Place domain analysis of PID and lead/lag controllers, Full State LQR/LQG methods, etc.).
  • Some familiarity with coding languages (structured text, C#, RESTful APIs, SQL, etc.).
  • 5S experience.
  • Understanding of calibration.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot issues with industrial equipment and programs as they arise.
  • Design and assemble electrical enclosures (panels or cabinets) that fulfill operational and automation goals on a project-by-project basis.
  • Assist with determining design specifications of equipment for production lines involving engineering projects.
  • Produce full electrical schematics (CAD based: SolidWorks Electrical or equivalent) of deployed systems and update them based on maintenance adjustments.
  • Develop and perform an electronics/controls maintenance & upgrade program, including planned life cycles.
