Engineer – Electrical Design Location: Decatur, IL (In office 5 days a week) Travel: Up to 10% Relocation Assistance: Available Visa Sponsorship: Not Offered Job Summary Caterpillar Inc. is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment. You have the opportunity to join the Load and Haul Electrical Installation team responsible for the electrical integration on Large Wheel Loaders and Compactors, Wheel Tractor Scrapers, Underground Vehicles, and Articulated Trucks. As a Design Engineer, you will assist with electrical installation engineering projects focusing on Large Wheel Loaders, Compactors, and Wheel Tractor Scrapers. Your responsibilities will span coordinating cross-functional activities involving product development, value chain optimization, manufacturing processes, commercial, and product support. You will be accountable for managing project timelines, product quality, and ensuring the successful integration of electrical solutions that address unique challenges within the product applications. Requirements

  • Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems
  • Effective Communications: Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas and information
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Extensive experience with Creo, Vis View, and Teamcenter experience.
  • Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Nice To Haves

  • Large Wheel Loader, Wheel Tractor Scraper or mining industry application knowledge.
  • Experience in Electrical installation product design and development.
  • Electrical SDP experience and ability to influence through expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Design new components and systems for the electrical integration on Large Wheel Loaders and Wheel Tractor Scrapers.
  • Responsible for the design, cost, quality, validation, and schedule
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure manufacturability and lifecycle efficiency.
  • Assisting supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance.
  • Drive collaboration with product development groups, value chain, manufacturing, commercial, and product support.
  • Research and develop new technology
  • Developing and documenting functional design requirements.
  • Provide support for design reviews and conformance to design guidelines and best practices.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
  • Perform electrical load analysis and initiate discussions with system partners
