About The Position

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. This position supports the Combat Systems Team in Department E35. The incumbent will lead the architecture, integration, and testing of advanced sonar, torpedo fire-control, command-and-control, and electronic warfare systems aboard next generation submarines. You will collaborate with hull, mechanical, and power-plant engineers, as well as Navy stakeholders, to ensure systems meet requirements. Lead system-level design and integration of hull-mounted and towed sonar arrays, fire-control systems, sensors, and ESM/ECM suites. Develop and review technical specifications, interface control documents, and combat system architectures tailored to submarine constraints. Coordinate with cross-discipline teams to manage shock, vibration, EMI/EMC, and acoustic signature requirements. Mentor junior engineers and enforce submarine engineering standards Manage schedules, cost estimates, and risk assessments for assigned combat system work

Requirements

  • Must Have Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

  • The successful candidate should have significant prior experience with one or more of the following: Sonar / Sensor System integration, Combat Systems Development / Integration, ESM/ECM Sensor Development / Integration, or similar integration efforts on related systems
  • Strong understanding of submarine requirements and system integration processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Prior technical experience with complex system integrations
