About The Position

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia, with over 25,000 employees. NNS is the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. The team comprises diverse professionals from skilled trades to project managers, engineers, and software developers, collaborating on advanced technology, manufacturing, and integration of naval ships. The AUKUS SSNA Program is actively seeking a skilled engineer to contribute to the development of the next generation of fast attack submarines. This role involves collaborative work with key stakeholders across the SSNA program and requires interfacing with the UK’s BAE Systems integrated delivery teams (IDTs) to assist in designing specific components of the UK and Australian SSNA nuclear-powered submarine.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or coursework in one or more of the following: Sonar Systems, Computer/Data System Integration, Radio System Integration, Cabling, Requirement Management and System Engineering Approach.
  • Excellent Written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand system schematics and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.
  • Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Engage with shipyards, customers and other stakeholders to collect feedback for design incorporation.
  • Have flexibility with work assignments and may perform duties outside of traditional discipline work scope.
  • Work with multi-discipline teams on incorporation of SSNA design principles.
  • Solve complex spatial integration issues while meeting system and overall ship requirements.
  • Be able to effectively communicate with both internal leadership and external customer(s).
  • Be prepared to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
  • The position will requires individuals who are able to adapt and adjust to support objectives.
