About The Position

Central Hudson is seeking an Engineer to join our Electric Transmission Design team. Engineers perform engineering assignments related to the planning/scoping, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and performance of the company's electric transmission system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with innovation in mind
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and quantitative skills
  • Must perform all tasks safely and design with safety in mind
  • Ability to voice opinions & lead discussions amongst industry groups
  • Flexibility to multitask and operate under pressure in a fast-paced work environment
  • Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer license
  • Field of study in civil or mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the electric and gas utility industry
  • 3+ years of work experience in a related engineering role, experience designing electric transmission systems

Responsibilities

  • Develops project scopes, designs and engineering prints, specifies, and procures equipment, and provides on-site field support for construction activities
  • Designs plans related to the complete rebuild of lines and maintenance-based spot replacements
  • Uses computer-aided design and inspection/maintenance software (PLS-CADD/CASCADE) to create design plans
  • Creates design plans with safety, regulatory standards, and codes (NESC, RUS, IEEE, ACSE), fellow employees, and the public in mind
  • Provides technical support for electric operations
  • Aids in the creation and development of constructible work packages needed to support the long-term capital plan
  • Analyzes performance of the company's electric transmission facilities and recommends any remedial measures
  • Collaboratively works with departments related to design work including System Construction, Purchasing, Real Property, Environmental, etc.
  • Represents Central Hudson in industry activities and organizations (NYISO, NYSRC, NPCC, IEEE, EPRI, CEATI etc.)
  • Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts as needed
