About The Position

This is a hybrid position within the Survey Engineering Department. The engineer is responsible for maintaining the electronics infrastructure used to comply with the United States Army Corps of Engineers' Dredge Quality Management (DQM) System requirements and the capturing of dredge plant production data for the company's dredging vessel fleet. The engineer will also be closely involved in the overall installation and configuration of dredge plant positioning components and software. This information is also used in providing real-time data used in Manson's dredge guidance systems. This is accomplished through the integration of a variety of sensors which include Nuclear Density Gauges, Velocity Gauges, Ullage Sensors, Draft Sensors, Bubbler Systems, Open / Close Sensors, Vacuum / Pressure Gauges, Inclinometers, Angle Sensors, Slew / Rotational sensors, List / Tilt Sensors, RPM Sensors, Gyrocompasses, Motion Reference Units (MRU), Electronic Distance Measuring devices (EDMs) / Spring Sensors, Winch Drum RPM counters and GNSS positioning systems. These systems are installed on the company's Hopper, Cutter Suction and Clamshell dredge plants throughout the US.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited university, preferably in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years job related experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contract specifications, permit regulations, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to produce reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively both as an individual and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

Nice To Haves

  • A Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) License holder is preferred or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Previous AutoCAD experience desired.
  • Strong working knowledge of Hypack, networking technology and PLC programming is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Manson's DQM and production reporting systems in good working order by checking and calibrating all pertinent sensors and documenting on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with engineers and dredge crew on effective sensor installation, system design and integration.
  • Conduct product research to identify new technology and applications to improve quality and reliability of existing systems.
  • Develop strong working relationships with government DQM personnel and product vendors.
  • Preparation and submittal of all Dredge Positioning Instrumentation Plans (DPIPs) to the Army Corp of Engineers DQM Team.
  • Coordinate and attend all DQM on-site certifications to facilitate a smooth and successful certification process.
  • Analyze/interpret DQM and production data and efficiently communicate findings to USCoE and other interested stakeholders.
  • Act as liaison between Manson and DQM HQ in all matters relating to issues with sensor(s) data and gaps in data streams.
  • Receive training for obtaining a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) License and assist in maintaining Manson's compliance with all state and federal laws governing density gauges shipments and all radioactive material use licenses.
  • Pursue and collaborate in the resolution of DQM, Dredge Positioning, Digital Communication, or Survey Electronics issues with the Survey and/or IT Managers.
  • Maintain strong working relationship between IT, Equipment and Survey Engineering Departments to ensure effective workflows in areas of overlapping responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Hypack and other software development entities on the creation of custom drivers to resolve existing issues and enhance data collection and presentation.
  • Acquire and maintain inventory of DQM-related sensor spares used throughout the company.
  • Participate in the department's activities including advance surveys, positioning installs/updates and decommissionings, hydrographic survey troubleshooting, engineer training, and leveraging new technology.
  • Ensure compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
