The Engineer - Distributed Energy Resources position at FirstEnergy involves supporting the company's Distributed Energy Resources (DER) strategy within the Energy Delivery Distribution Planning & Protection team. The role focuses on providing leadership and technical support for the evolving electrical system, ensuring safety, and enhancing operational efficiency. This position allows for remote work within certain states and requires collaboration with various teams to drive improvements and deliver results.

  • Maintain a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based on knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations.
  • Provide high-level service and support surrounding technical subject matter to leadership and peers.
  • Use standard planning and protection tools for circuit modifications and technical analysis.
  • Support annual engineering tasks such as Capital Portfolio development and Distribution System Assessment.
  • Conduct technical research analysis and interpret results for implementation activities.
  • Develop alternatives and recommendations for moderately complex technical processes and projects.
  • Provide sound customer service by exceeding internal customer needs and expectations.
  • Support operating company personnel through webcasts, workshops, and training.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives across FirstEnergy.
  • Integrate strategic concepts into business unit activities and provide strategic direction.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
  • Minimum of three to five years of engineering experience is required.
  • Expert-level analytical and technical abilities are necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Teams, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience with SAP, CYME, LFDMS, EMS, TOAD/SQL, and GISView is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to make formal technical presentations.
  • Excellent technical analysis and technical writing abilities.
  • Advanced degree or certification is a plus; PE preferred.
  • Previous experience in DER interconnection review and/or distribution planning & protection job functions is preferred.
