Join our dynamic Tracked Products Engineering Heavy Structures team as a Design Engineer for Electric Rope Shovels, Draglines and Hydraulic Mining Shovel products. In this thrilling role, you'll dive into the design and analysis of cutting-edge components, working closely with top-tier manufacturers and suppliers. You'll be at the forefront of innovation, driving New Product Introductions (NPI), collaborating on New Supplier Introductions, and spearheading Continuous Product Improvements (CPI). Your expertise will ensure our products remain at the pinnacle of excellence, while you also play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
  • Skilled in developing durable heavy-structure designs that consistently meet engineering and performance requirements.
  • Proficient in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to simulate and analyze structural behavior under various load conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to provide and guide technical solutions.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Electric Rope Shovel, Dragline, or Hydraulic Mining Shovel product knowledge.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar Engineering Systems (Teamcenter, HVC, EDS, etc.).
  • Background in NPI or CPI programs.
  • Involvement in executing APQP.

Responsibilities

  • Create design concepts and drawings of complex structural systems that meet functional and technical requirements, cost and weight goals, quality initiatives, and manufacturing process requirements.
  • Perform fatigue analysis on the concept using Creo Simulate.
  • Support validation activities such as test and field trials.
  • Support and lead APQP activities.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and internal manufacturing facilities, engineering partners, and the core Product Group.
