About The Position

The Engineer Controls role supports plant operations through electrical controls, instrumentation, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position works closely with production, maintenance, operations, and cross-functional partners to support the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and improvement of industrial systems and facility technologies. This role is ideal for a mechanically inclined individual who is comfortable working in an industrial environment and interested in developing skills across controls, SCADA, instrumentation, operational technology, machine vision and AI, and supporting facility systems such as access control, surveillance, networking, security, and fire systems. In addition to controls-related responsibilities, this position also provides hands-on support to maintenance and operations as needed to help drive uptime, reliability, and smooth production flow.

Requirements

  • Education : A Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent experience.
  • Experience : At least 1 year of programming experience with an ability to program PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work from ladders and lifts
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform hands-on field installation and support work in an industrial environment
  • Work Environment
  • Refrigerated areas around 34°F
  • Non-conditioned areas that may be hotter or colder depending on the season
  • Active production and maintenance environments requiring safe work practices and responsiveness to operational needs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industrial electrical controls
  • Familiarity with 480VAC and 24VDC systems is required.
  • Experience with industrial instrumentation and field devices
  • Experience with industrial PLC platforms such as Allen Bradley, Omron, and AutomationDirect is preferred
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), such as Allen Bradley, AutomationDirect, and Yaskawa, is preferred
  • Proficiency with Windows based computers and the ability to learn new software platforms
  • Exposure to or willingness to learn Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform hands-on troubleshooting and installation work
  • Experience with welding, including TIG welding, metal fabrication, drilling, tapping, or building enclosures is helpful
  • Exposure to facility support systems such as access control, surveillance, networking, security, or fire systems is helpful
  • Exposure to Python, YOLO, TensorRT, or related machine vision and AI tools is helpful, but not required
  • Ability to support live operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and learning agility across multiple technical areas

Responsibilities

  • Support production, maintenance, operations, and other departments with electrical controls, automation, and facility technology needs
  • Assist with troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving industrial electrical and control systems
  • Work with 480VAC, 24VDC, and related industrial electrical and control components
  • Assist with conduit installation, wire pulling, wire termination, and field device installation
  • Support instrumentation and field devices including temperature sensors and transmitters, pressure transducers, distance and proximity sensors, scales and weighing systems, photo eyes, and related automation devices
  • Learn and support software platforms such as Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA used to support plant operations and related projects
  • Assist with the support, maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of door access control systems, surveillance and camera systems, plant networking and connected industrial devices, security-related systems, and fire system devices and infrastructure
  • Participate in continuous improvement and automation initiatives that enhance plant performance, reliability, visibility, and operational support
  • Assist with machine learning, machine vision, and artificial intelligence initiatives tied to manufacturing and operational improvement
  • Provide support to maintenance and operations in areas outside of controls when needed to help maintain uptime, improve reliability, and support efficient production
  • Provide hands-on support across plant projects and operational needs as necessary
  • Work safely in refrigerated and non-conditioned industrial environments
  • Provide occasional onsite support in Waverly for project and operational needs
