About The Position

AEP is seeking site civil engineers and geotechnical engineers who are searching for an exciting opportunity to join the Civil & Geotechnical Engineering (CGE) group at American Electric Power (AEP). Site Civil Engineer Responsibilities: Qualified candidates shall possess knowledge of civil site engineering principles through education and/or demonstrated project experience related to: site grading stormwater management drainage design/analysis roadway design erosion and sediment control permitting surveying Geotechnical Engineer Responsibilities: Qualified candidates shall possess knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles through education and/or demonstrated project experience related to the following core areas: Earthwork, retaining wall, slope stability and landslide mitigation design Foundation design (drilled piers, steel grillages, steel caissons, micro piles, helical piles, driven piles, and guy anchors), Subsurface investigations and desktop geologic research Geotechnical construction Successful candidates will possess the proven ability to assess and recommend best case civil engineering solutions and collaborate with higher level non-civil engineers and other project stakeholders in solving civil engineering related challenges in consideration of safety, performance, cost, constructability, risk, and liability. Note: These positions are posted at multiple grade levels and offer a range of opportunities for advancement. The final grade and compensation offered will be based on the successful candidate's education, experience, and relevant skills. The minimum qualifications below are for Engineer Associate. Requirements

  • Knowledge and/or experience using AutoCAD and Civil3D software is required.
  • Engineer Assoc: This is an entry level position for new graduates with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET
  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.
  • ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • Acceptable alternatives are: Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. OR Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
  • Travel (~10%) is required for this position and will consist of trips to the field to diagnose civil engineering issues related to electric transmission lines and substations.
  • Field assignments are generally within a 5-hour driving distance of the assigned office location.
  • Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day.
  • Some OT may be required, as approved.
