About The Position

This is the Engineer Apprentice level, an entry level position where applicants have an interest in gaining exposure and experience in the transportation industry from the perspective of state government; particularly in the areas of highway design, construction, and maintenance. Summer Engineer Apprentices will have the opportunity to gain work experience by participating in highway construction and maintenance activities such as: Assisting a survey crew, Assisting with traffic hazard surveys, Documenting daily construction activities and project status, Maintaining highway rights-of-way, Repairing highway safety appurtenances, Repairing roads and bridges, Testing and inspecting construction materials, Verifying that project elements are built according to plans and specifications, and much more. Returning Summer Engineer Apprentices will further their experience by participating in the above activities at a more in-depth level, as well as possibly being assigned to their own project. Field assignments are available at all 77 Oklahoma counties and are subject to location and availability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Strong scores in subjects involving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
  • Ability to perform manual labor
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting a survey crew
  • Assisting with traffic hazard surveys
