About The Position

Miami-Dade County is seeking an advanced professional to lead and oversee various types of design/construction projects across all facilities at Miami International Airport (MIA) and the General Aviation (GA) airports. This role involves managing complex aviation-related /design/construction initiatives, including terminal and concourse expansions, passenger terminals, airside and landside infrastructure (such as bridges and roadways), baggage handling systems (BHS), CCTV, access control (security), and other airport-specific facilities. The Engineer 4 will provide strategic oversight and hands-on management for multiple projects. Key responsibilities include identifying specific project needs, addressing design and construction challenges, managing budgets and schedules, and ensuring compliance with regulations, all while supporting the safety and operational integrity of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD). Responsibilities cover all phases of project development, which involve consultant and contractor selection, plan review, construction management, inspections, and warranty administration. Additionally, the role includes conducting site visits, reviewing project progress, approving invoices and change orders, ensuring proper commissioning and close-out procedures, and conducting contractor evaluations. The incumbent will manage a variety of construction projects from planning through close-out, using industry-standard software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Primavera P6, Bluebeam Revu, Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. Additionally, the incumbent will commute independently to various work sites throughout MIA and the GA airports in Miami-Dade County using an assigned County vehicle.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering and seven years of engineering experience are required.
  • A State of Florida Professional Engineer license or Bachelors degree in Engineering Technology awarded or having been enrolled prior to July 1, 1979 and proof of having passed the fundamental test for the State of Florida Professional Engineer license may substitute for the required education.
  • Applicants qualifying for employment with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department will be subject to extensive security screening, including but not limited to fingerprint checks, employment verification, and other such procedures as may be mandated by federal law.
  • The security clearance required by federal law is a continuing condition of employment.
